Temple Sha’arey Shalom’s Sisterhood is a wonderful way to be involved in our Temple community. The Sisterhood is a diverse group of women who come together in friendship, a sense of mitzvot and commitment to the well-being of our Temple and community. We provide women an opportunity to participate in volunteer work, advocacy, fundraising and educational programs. We meet on the 2nd Monday of every month to plan events that benefit our entire congregation. Sisterhood sponsors and coordinates Friday night Onegs, holiday refreshments, and complimentary Sisterhood membership for new members. Our Shalach Manot project ensures every congregant receives goodies at Purim. Additionally, we raise money to support Temple-wide programming throughout the year; which have included selling honey, such activities as Bingo, Girls’ Night Out, game nights and speakers on a variety of topics. Sisterhood has something for everyone, and Sisterhood needs everyone to do something! Please join us at our next meeting and meet the women of our community. Membership is open to all. Brotherhood is strongly rooted in the honored principles of Jewish manhood: family values, performing mitzvot for our Temple and our community. We are proud to be Sha’arey Shalom’s “strong right arm.” We are dedicated to providing financial and logistical support to the Temple and its members – and to having fun while we’re doing it. We raise money and make donations for Temple improvements and events, conduct Summer Shabbat services and host the oneg, usher for Shabbat and High Holiday services and plan and assist social activities. We also hold movie nights which include a discussion on the films and socializing with refreshments. Membership is open to all the men of our Temple. For more information, contact brotherhood@shaarey.org.
The Social Action Committee is actively bringing opportunities for our congregants to assist in Tikkun Olam, making our world a better place. As a synagogue we are committed to pursuing social justice to improve our congregation, community and the world through direct service, education, advocacy, building alliances, and driving change. The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC) has been the hub of Jewish social justice and legislative activity. This year they are involved in getting out the vote and many of our congregants participated in “postcard parties” to encourage people to vote and providing information about where and when to vote. We disseminated information to help teach people about the warning signs of potential school violence through the organization Sandy Hook Promise. We also support Community Food Bank of NJ, Family Promise, and Bridges through collections of money, food and other items.
